Spurs 4 Everton 0
Saturday saw us complete the home & away double over Everton, with a 7-0 aggregate score this Season. Kane scored his second ‘pair’ against them, having netted twice in the match at Goodison (Post 29). Son opened our scoring on Saturday and Eriksen completed a brilliant team move for our 4th – see graphic above, courtesy of BBC, and link below to stream. (Christian also scored one in the away leg earlier this season).
Everton’s defenders must be sick of the sight of our frontline.
Stats-wise we had 62% possession and 20 shots (v 7), of which 10 were on target (v 0). But the gap between the two sides felt more decisive than that. Apart from the first 15 minutes (during which Rooney headed the ball into our net but was correctly, if marginally, ruled offside), Spurs were in total control. Son became the first Spurs player since Defoe (in 2004) to score in 5 consecutive home PL matches. Meanwhile, Kane set yet another record; he overtook Teddy Sheringham as Spurs highest ever PL scorer with 98 goals. The difference is that Kane’s have come in 135 games while Teddy’s 97 took him 237 games. Kane is also now tied with Steven Gerrard’s record for PL Player of the Month Awards (6). Except it took Gerrard an entire long, distinguished career to earn his 6 POTM awards. Harry’s 24! Oh, and he’s also the first Spurs player to score 20 league goals in 4 consecutive seasons since Jimmy Greaves from 1961-65.
Results-wise it was a good weekend for us. Man City lost at last (4-3 to Liverpool), Chelsea only drew (0-0 at home to Leicester) and Arsenal lost 2-1 (away at Bournemouth, after leading 1-0). Man United play Stoke at Old Trafford tonight.
We are gaining ground, now 3 points off 2nd place. Arsenal are 6th (39 pnts), Spurs 5th (44), Chelsea 4th (47), Liverpool 3rd (47), Man United 2nd (47, game in hand) and Man City top (62). The bookies are now apparently offering 10-1 on Spurs to finish the Season in second. Down the road, the anti-Wenger brigade are growing louder again.
Our squad have gone to Barcelona for a week’s R&R, with an away match against Southampton to come next Sunday.
